Dear Fifth Grade Students and Parents,
Hello, my name is Mrs. Waverka. I am thrilled to be teaching fifth grade at Seven Sorrows School. This is my
sixth year teaching fifth grade. I completed my student teaching at Milton Hershey School in fifth grade. I feel I am destined to be a fifth grade teacher. My educational background includes a Master's of Education Degree in Instructional Strategies from Augustana University (online), a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Wilson College, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications from Penn State University. I also have Religious Education Certification through the Harrisburg Diocese.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Mike and three children. I enjoy exercising every morning before school. Exercising allows me time to pray and focus on the important activities of the day.
My goal as a teacher is to make each child love coming to school to learn. I truly enjoy what I do by helping your child grow closer to God and use their gifts to become the person He has created them to be.
The summer reading project is under the Homework Heading. This graded assignment is a part of the Language Arts grade. The non-fiction book you will read will focus on learning about a culture. This project ties in with our Social Studies curriculum, where you will be learning about Ancient Civilizations around the world.
Begin by choosing a book about a culture you are interested in studying. You will collect six items that are significant to your culture. You may use any size of box to collect your six items that are important to your culture. Review the directions and complete the culture kit worksheet attached. The second part of this assignment is to give an oral presentation on your culture during the first week of school. If you have any questions, I can be reached at [email protected]. Please don't hesitate to contact me over the summer. I look forward to meeting you in August.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Waverka
